Valve springs and rocker arms.

Going to be installing some Crane or comp 1.6 Aluminum RRs. I was wondering what the best valve springs are to get as an upgrade so i can rev past 6k. Im going to rev to about 6200 or 6100 so i want a good upgrade spring. Im still on stock heads and cam. And please dont ask why im reving so high lol.

Hot Cam springs would work fine, but I don't see why you would want to rev the motor almost 2k past max HP.

Re: Valve springs and rocker arms.

Got a part number? IS there anythign else i should use or might need? I have an auto that i manually shift with a kit, and it has 3.73s in the rear. When i shift at 5k with these gears i am allways below 4 grand. Lt1 at 3500 rpms sucks. I like my power at 4k and above and it makes good hp until about 5600. So going to 6k isnt to much less power.

With the stock LT1 cam there is no reason to rev past 57-5800 rpm. Another thing, unless you want premature tranny wear, just put it in OD and let it do the shifting.

Re: Valve springs and rocker arms.

I have a shift kit that makes the transmission shift manually. And it is fully built by a local shop so im not worried about that :} Im probably just going to end up buy the damn LT4 hot cam kit. After pricing the springs and rockers, ill only save like 10 bucks if i do it seperate. So i might have an LT4 cam for sale soon if anyone wants one lol. IF u guys have any better suggestions on the rockers or springs i could get let me know.

The isky springs from thunder racing is what I used.Have not had a problem so far they are good for .550 lift and fit in the stock location without a problem. These are more than enough for the stock cam.

Re: Valve springs and rocker arms.

Comp Cam Bee Hives, 918's. Plenty of spring, and they work great with most cams. Supports ALOT of lift.

And seriously, dont spin it that high. As a matter of fact, the stock rev limitier is at 6K I think. So inless you your PCM changed for it, you are going to bounce of the limiter.

Your probably making peak power around 5200ish RPMs and should be shifting it at 5800ish RPMs at the very most. Take it to the track and try it both ways. Youll actually probably be faster shifting it at 5800 than at 6200. It just isnt making the power to pull those kind of RPM's ... And its hard on the motor. If you dont need to spin it that high, dont.

CM612's from Combination Motorsports are up to the task. The Beehives to which RM125 are referring would be really nice but more money of course. If you upgrade your cam in the future, I would probably not use the LT4 springs, but for a stock cam, they would probably work just fine for you. I can't believe I just said that.

This is about as debatable as "if i put my tranny in neutral at every light will it ware it out quicker"

Re: Valve springs and rocker arms.

ehh, Im no master of Automatic transmissions, but it does seem like a disaster waiting to happen ...

A while back my friends did this in one of their cars. They tried to wind it out like significantly further than where it shifts if it is just in D and you floor it from a stop. It actually shifted anyways even though it was down in 1.

This could make an intersesting thread though ...

Don't use OD at the strip or it will go bang don't care who built it.

I mean manually selecting a gear, not spinning it to 10,000 RPM

Re: Valve springs and rocker arms.

My transmission has a kit in it that allows me to manually shift only. I cannot throw it in "D" or "OD" because those are actual gears now. IF i put it in "D" im in 3rd from the get go lol.

Re: Valve springs and rocker arms.

OoOo ... Interesting ...

How do you like that for on the street ?

At first I thought it would be sort of annoying, but the more I think about it, I dont mind shifting a stick so that cant be bad either ...

Haha and its always better than starting out with a stick on a cliff ... Then again, you probably have significantly flatter raods in Cali than I do in Pittsburgh ...
