Valve Spring Swap?

I am about to start a cam and valvetrain swap and i was wondering when i should change the valve springs and hardware. Should i change them before i swap the cam, after the cam, with the intake on or off?
Also any suggestions or tips about the process that might help me would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Greg

Anytime.... its all the same. As long as you dont run the motor before you swap them. Bring each cyclider to TDC and chnge the springs for that cylinder. It's easy that way with the heads on.

And pretty much the only way to get it done w/ any type of exhaust connected to the heads. I've yet to find an air fitting that will fit in our engine bays around the exhaust.

Yea i know, i've looked over that along with the cam removal and install many times. I just wasnt sure on when to actually change the springs during the whole process.

I will be using the TDC method for changing them.

It looks like i can do it either before or after i change the cam.

Thank you,
-Greg

Re: Valve Spring Swap?

It really doen't matter. You will want to pull the rockers off before the cam install/removal so that you can take out the pushrods and lifters, but the springs really dont matter. Follow the guide on shoebox's site and you will be fine. Also, make sure to follow his tip about using a small socket to "shock" the locks loose before compressing the springs. That really helped.
