Valve Spring Questions

Alright, here is the cam that I have:

Duration Lift w/ 1.6 rr LSA

218 0.528 0.537 112

I was wondering what spring I should use, I have been thinking about the following options:

Crane cams 10308 kit with 99893 dual springs

Comp cams 983-16 springs with stock retainers/locks

Comp cams 26918 springs with stock retainers/locks

Any opinions are welcomed. I am looking to use as many stock parts as possible, such as the retainers and locks (not sure if possible) and I was also hoping to spend as little cash as possible! (haha, not gonna happen). I do not want to cut the spring pockets....

Thanks for your help,
Ryan

Re: Valve Spring Questions

The cam manufacturer is the best source for this info. Why are you using a single pattern cam in an LTx motor, just curious.

Re: Valve Spring Questions

Whatever springs ya get get retainers and locks too. I didn't and it cost an engine.
Call the cam maker for recommendations on springs.

26918's are the best choice.

Comp cams 26918 springs with stock retainers/locks
You need to do some more research as those wont work with stock retainers and while stock locks might work I would think a set of +.050s would be better. I agree with Bret that they are the right springs for the job, you just can't use them with the parts you wanted to.

Re: Valve Spring Questions

depends on the RPM and lobe profile. If you get the 26918's get retainers and locks to go with them.

Re: Valve Spring Questions

Unless you plan on spinning 7 grand, you might want to spend your loot on something other than titanium retainers. JMHO

Re: Valve Spring Questions

One of the key benifits of beehives is the smaller and therefore lighter retainer being smaller a switch to titanium will net you a whole lot less weight savings than it would with traditional springs and retainers, by the time they become a remotely good idea I would think a rev kit would be a better way to spend that money.
