Valve Spring help

What are some good valve springs that will hold up to a gm847 with 1.6 rockers?
Lift being in the mid 590's and duration 234/242 I do believe. Also is any machining/shimming required? If so please post up.

Thanks!!
Craig

Re: Valve Spring help

Cam Card should give you required spring specs. Whoever provides that cam should provide recommended spring including ID and OD of the spring. There should be a spring available that will fit your stock seats and no machining will be necessary. Do some checking. JMHO

Re: Valve Spring help

You might consider the Crane Dual Valve Spring PN 99893-16

OD: 1.460
ID 1.075
Seat Pressure: 130 lbs @ 1.850 install ht.
Open Pressure: 402 lbs @ 1.150 install ht.
Coil Bind 1.080

avg. spring rate: 391 lbs/in

I believe that the stock seat should fit (maybe snug, but should be ok)

Now that I think about it: I believe that is the same spring recommended for my little 210/224 cam and it apparently fits. It's basically for a big block or RV cam. Should work fine. Good luck.

Re: Valve Spring help

402 # is way to high for an hydraulic roller cam.....

You need a spring that will be 120-130# seat/ 300-315 at max lift.

Re: Valve Spring help

Alright I've decided those crane duals look pretty good. Fairly good price and they fit with stock seats. How about retainers/locks? Are the stock ones capable of being used or should I go with aftermarket retainers/locks? Thanks alot guys for the help.

Re: Valve Spring help

LOL - I didn't notice that...but even so the spring rate would put the open pressure at 345# at .550
