Re: Valve seal help

Not saying you don't know about springs....just the 10308 kit is a direct replacement for the LT1 Aluminum

your reply notes 968 (typo)????, the OP was talking about "986" springs

Yes those springs are a double with damper between the springs. Some pull dampers on single springs like the Howards 98215's several use

FWIW the Crane kit is just one option, still available at places like Summit.

Several springs will work and clear the .662 OD of the valve stem seal

Re: Valve seal help

get the FelPro Viton seals. Most auto part stores should have them

or

Lunati #78562-16

you want 11/32" - .562 Viton seals

Re: Valve seal help

well, i got the crane 10308 kit in the mail, the spring definitely clears the valve seals, but the spring retainer is too small to fit over the valve guide.

???, the "retainer" goes on top of the spring

you mean the "locator"??

you need to remove the valve stem seal first, put locator on, then new valve stem seal

Re: Valve seal help

Yes, sorry the locator. And I did have the valve seal off, it would not fit over the guide. I'm getting very frustrated with the pile of parts I have to send back. Just don't understand what's going on.

Re: Valve seal help

Can't you use your stock locators?

Re: Valve seal help

I guess I don't know, I never thought about that. I just assumed what came in the crane kit should be installed, i will have to try the stock locators with the crane springs. I'm just confused because this kit says it should be a direct fit for stock lt1 heads.

Re: Valve seal help

is this the kit you got?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-10308-1

looks like they come with retainers, locks and seats (basically hardened washers). That large washer should fit over the valve guide....although possible FU in packaging. FWIW my fit was plug & play. I have those springs on a 355 LT1 in my 70 Nova

Re: Valve seal help

That is the kit I got, those washers are supposed to be used as locators? Will that hold the spring in place properly? Seems like it might slip around at high rpm?

Re: Valve seal help

I can't remember what the stock locators were. Are your stock locators flat or do they have a raised part on the inside?

If so you could use your stock ones if they are wide enough, otherwise just use the large flat washers
