Valve lash.....this is kilin me.

I'm setting valve lash now and I 'm having a problem. One maual says to tighted nut until rod stop rotating the back off to have drag. Another says to tighten nut then when you start to feel it drag...thats zero lash. Which is right????? the difference is about 2 full turns. I did it the way shoeboxes site says...when I start to feel drag. My question is this....when done...should I still be able to spin the pushrods?/ I believe so..depending on the cylinder right??

The best way i have found to get zero lash was with one hand tighten the rocker nut and in the other hand move the pushrod up and down slightly while you are tightning the nut as soon as you feel no play or gap then that is zero lash....... You don't have to use alot of force.... Just take your time and you will be able to see what i am talking about....

Ditto the above.Zero lash is no play between the rod and rocker.I dont know how you get two turns difference, should be about 1/8 turn.

Well.....when from the time I start to feel drag on the pushrod, til the time it comes to a complete stop I get about 1 to 2 full turns on the nut.

Its because the rockers havent been run yet, mine were hard to turn when I first set the last so I did it loose. Then the second time I could spin the nut down with my fingers and that was 0 lash.

Hey you might be tightning the push rod too much for zero lash.. Move the pushrod like i said up and down not side to side as soon as you feel it tight ( no more play up and down) that is zero lash....... My pushrods were loose side to side at zero lash..... T

Go to 0 lash, then tighten 1/2 to 3/4 turn and you will be set, Thats assuming all your lifters have oil in them

You should have soaked the lifters in oil for at least 12hrs. But set the rockers "loose" then re adjust them once you crank the car while its running. I ran mine for 30mins relativly loose then turned the car off and re-adjusted them.
