Valve Covers?

I just looked under my car yesterday when i saw drops of oil coming from it. My question is could a bad valve cover gasket spray enough oil around to pretty much cover everything from the back of the motor and the tranny if it was run like that for a little while?

This sounds like the common intake leak on the LT1

+1. I would reach behind your motor and feel where the intake meets the block and see if its leaking.

Front main caused the spray effect you describe as well, at least in my case. I washed under the car/motor once to find the leak, just be carefull not to spray the opti.

You could only hope it was the valve cover.
It's most likley the intake manifold, at the back.

Unfortunately there is no gasket for the front and rear of the intake manifold - you will have to use some gasket maker and do the work yourself. I just finished doing mine and it should take you at least half a day if you are good with cars. Maybe longer if this is your first.

First, you will need to disconnect all the parts that are on the intake manifold. You can keep the fuel rails on.

Make sure that you thoroughly clean all the mating areas. Brake cleaner seems to work great.

I've heard that "The Right Stuff" works better than the traditional gasket maker. This is sold in a can at most auto parts stores.

Once you apply the sealant on the mating areas, have a friend assist you in putting the intake manifold back on. I say to use another person because it is difficult to put the intake manifold back on yourself without sliding it in some way because of the awkward angle. With a person on each side, you will be able to put the manifold on straight down.

After putting the manifold down, do not torque the bolts immediately. I waited about 10 minutes. Afterwards, do not fire up the car until at least 24 hours have elapsed. If done correctly, you should not have any more problems.

If you need more assistance, there is a lot of posts on this site so read away! Good luck.
