Valve Covers???

When going to a 1.6 rocker arm on a stock cam is it necessary to buy taller valve covers? Thanks

What about going with 1.7's is that possible on stock tuning and valve covers? I'm definately going with 1.6 but was considering the 1.7 if it's not alot of trouble. Thanks again

Mine hit when I had them...I'd personally stay away from 1.7 rockers.

Just skip the 1.7 rockers they're not a good idea for a whole laundry list of reasons. They do have thier application but its just not yours.

all you have to do is flatten out the support rail on the intake side of the valve covers, or you can cut it out of there with no ill effects, i prefer to cut it but i'm a little lazy.

mind if i ask when 1.7s are applicable? ive only seen a handful of lt1 guys using em, so i gotta wonder why one wouldnt use them (with aftermarket springs of course)

they're applicable on certain 18* and other race setups where you cant physicly fit a taller cam lobe into the current cam tunnel i've worked on setups that run 1.9 and 2.0 rocker ratios, but they are RACE ONLY. and those are only usually in cases where boring the cam tunnel out to a larger size like 55mm or even 60mm to get a little extra room isnt allowed.

The reason most on here dont run them is because its hard to keep high ratio rockers like the 1.7's under control over 6500 rpm without running a solid roller with the heavy stock or stainless steel valves that most on here use, in short its just too much brain damage most of the time, sure you can cut a cam to work with 1.7's and stay under control but why go through the hassle. plus the wilder your rocker ratio gets the more funky your pushrod placement is the more force you're putting on the lifter plunger, its just hard to justify on a juice roller.

The other reason is that even on a cam heads lt1, from 1.5-1.6 rockers will be about a 15hp gain, but from 1.6-1.7 is gonna be 5 if you're lucky and dont start rattling the valves.

btw 1.6's on stock springs are a little sketchy but its been done for pretty decent periods of time, 1.7's is a no go and you will break stuff.
