I have never heard of anyone having valve problems with either cam. I'd consult Comp or GMPP for more info if your real worried about it.

I am running a CC cam with more lift than the 847/306 on a factory shortblock and NO DRAMA. If you install the cam and set it up correctly you will be fine.

Has anyone actually checked it, though?

Not sure if anyone has checked it, but since many folks are running cams as large or larger than the CC306 or GM 847 on stock bottom ends I doubt you have much to worry about.

Re: valve clearance w/ 306 or GM 847

Don't worry, there's plenty of room. I just checked mine with zero deck, .025 milled off of the heads, .039 Felpro gasket, and a .627 lift solid roller with 112 LSA installed at 108 and I still had .085. I've floated the valves on my car several times with the 224/230 and 1.6 rockers and didn't hit anything.

Im floating the valves right now with the 847, zero deck, .020 shaved off the heads and 2.00/1.60 valves. No problems.
