vacuum in my gas tank (not the appliance vacuum)

the other day when i took my gas cap off to fill it up, the car sucked in a pretty significant ammount of air. Its never done that to me before, im wondering if such a thing is normal? It seems to be running 100%

Re: vacuum in my gas tank (not the appliance vacuum)

You probably happened to open it at just the right timing where the EVAP solenoid opened and scavenged the remaining gas fumes in the tank just a few seconds prior to shutting the car off, creating a vaccuum. It happens on mine from time to time as well.

It can also happen when your exhaust heats the gas tank from underneath more than usual (long drive, hot day, rich condition, etc.)
