vacuum leak

i have a 96 lt1. ive been having rough idels and random misfires and i think i have an idea of why it is now. i scanned my computer and it suggested a vacuum leak. i looked at all my vacuum hoses and they were all dry rotted and cracked. it this a good possibilty on why my car is not running right?

I think that there is def. a good possibility there. I had two vacuum leaks when i got my Camaro about a month ago, and it was having trouble running as well. People with more experience will come to help you soon as to what to look for.

If you have good listening ability or a stethescope you can find the leaks by sound. If not try replacing the worst hoses first- one at a time. see what improves after each replacement. LT1's , unlike earlier SBC's, have vacuum upstream of the throttle body so check the rubber elbow too. This tears easily as it ages and can cause problems when it leaks. It can leak even if it is not torn. A vacuum leak may not be the problem

Take a plumbers torch and turn the gas on..DO NOT light it. Run the engine while placing the torch tip along all vac lines/fittings. If there is a leak. The engine will suck in some of the gas and the rpm will increase. I know it sounds dangerous to some but is actually a common practice. I am 53 and have done it for decades without blowing up yet..LOL

What was the specific trouble code you got the "suggested a vacuum leak"?
