Vacum Hose
Vacum Hose
On the 94 Lt1s there a vacum hose running from the passenger side valve cover to the throttle body. Is this one of those lines that runs exhaust gas back into the intake? And if so can I take this hose off and block off the ends?
Re: Vacum Hose
No.
That hose flows air from a passage in front of the TB blades, to the passenger side valve cover. That air is pulled thruogh the crankcase and lifter valley, to pick up the blowby and other vapor that collects in the crankcase. The flow is provided by the intake manifold vacuum, via the PCV valve, located in the center of the drivers side of the intake manifold.
You could remove that line and install a valve cover breather. In effect, you will have created a small vacuum leak, since the air ends up in the combustion chambers, and in the stock configuration is accounted for in the air measured by the MAF sensor..... nothing the long term fuel corrections can't compensate for.
But you can not completely block off the hole in the valve cover, because you would eliminate the flow through the PCV system, and the crankcase can build up pressure, or condense out harmful liquids to contaminate the oil.
