V6 to V8 Swap
I have a 1995 Camaro v6 that I put a lt1 in.
It was a complete lt1 (wiring, computer, tranny, etc...)
The engine runs great..... well maybe... however i am getting a check engine light.
When I hook up a scan tool to it I don't get anything. I have tried using different tools and even let gm try it. Still no read. I double checked my wires from the pcm to the aldl port and according to the gm service manual they are correct.
Has anyone else done this swap and if so did I miss anything?
Please HELP!!!

Well it sounds like you're pretty knowledgable.
If you're using an OBD1 scanner then I don't know what to say, except maybe there's some broken wires. If you get connectivity with all the wires, I'd send it to one of the ecm programmers to make sure the computer is all right. Other than that I can't think of anything.
Yeah most 95s are a pain in the butt since they're obd1 with the obd2 port. I'm just gonna wait till I've got money to blow and get a cable to hook up to my laptop and use some free scanning software. When my optispark went I bought an obd2 scanning tool because it had the 16 pin connector. All it ever said was "Err". Worked on my friend's GTP just fine though. I learned my lesson. Luckily my dad bought the scanner from me.

The data cable is just a single cable.... the others are power & ground, right?.... Should be able to trace back the one important wire -- the data wire -- and make sure it gets where it's supposed to go....
Is your scanner cable looking on the right pin for the data?

This may help. I tried to get my 97 camaro scanned last month at 2 different auto zones, and the scanner wasn't even comming on at either place. I checked my fuses, and the fuse for the cigarette lighter was blown. I found out that the data link cable that you plug the scanner into is also on that fuse. Put a new fuse in, and it worked. Good Luck.
I believe it was a tech 2 scanner.
I also sent it to a gm service center they couldn't read it either.
All the wires have been traced. In the service manual it mentions a body control module??? is it the same for a v6 and v8... I guess i need to check that out.
The message on the scanner tool reads "no power"
I checked the aldl for 12v and it checked out
also checked for ground.
BTW the wire is a tan wire....
Any more ideas?

you wont find a better scanner than a Tech 2 so thats not the issue. not trying to insult your intelligence but did you turn the key to the ON position? did you rewire the ALDL port or was it all intact from the doner car?
Did you try to compare the "prongs" inside the scanner's connector to make sure they all line up with a terminal in the ALDL port? On the ALDL itself... the far bottom left should be the Data, far bottom right should be +12, counting from the upper left side 5 slots in should be the ground. hows does that compare?
great idea... but already checked that... and checked again... and aga... well you get the point...
I am ready to pull my hair out with this. This is a stock engine (except for headers) however it has given me problems from the begining. Now that it is throwing coads and i can't read them it is making me even more frusterated....

it is my understanding that just because you have a SES light doesn't neccesarrily mean something is "wrong" Most of the time when you add an aftermarket exhaust/headers you do get a SES light. If the car runs fine then don't worry about it
that is just it though.. the car does not run fine..
Some times the car will not start.
then two days later it will fire right up.
No not a dead battery.
The engine cranks yet wont fire
then it will fire a little, but will not stay running
then it will run fine
its not the fuel filter or pump (both are brand new)
