Most V6 rears did not come with posi (it was "optional"), and they had drum brakes.

This should help.

Drums are standard on 93-97 non Y87 cars. All 98-02 V6s had disc rears.

Open diffs are standard on all 93-02 V6s, unless you get the Y87. 96-98 Y87s got the Auburn unit, while 99-02 Zenxel-Torsen unit.

The Y87 package was not available in 93-95

It will bolt up alright. V6 guys can go to LT1 rears (MustangEater82 did) for the posi and rear discs, so I don't see why you can't do the reverse.

The thing is price: you would have to buy a posi (If it is a non Y87 car) and rear disc brakes for the rear. Maybe you can put your current disc brakes on the V6 rear?

I would say try to find an LT1 rear, just because all of the good stuff (posi, rear discs) will already be there, making it all easier... and because drum brakes suck
