v6 lt1 swap question.. please help

ok i just swapped my v6 to an lt1 and everything is hooked up, but i got one small problem... when i turn my key on the fuel pump won't kick on, and i cannot get fire to my distributor wiring harness, so i hot wired my fuel pump and turn the motor over and i cannot get fire to my distributer, therefore no spark to my plugs...

the lt1 came out of a 95 trans am and my car is a 97 camaro and the lt1 harnesses have hooked up perfect to the 97's so i don't know what my problem is...

any suggestions would help a whole lot

thanks, russell

Did you use the same tranny's with swap, ie auto and auto or 5 speed and six speed? If you went to a different tranny you will need to do some wire splicing under the dash to get it to run.

This can go on LT1 Tech, or V6 Tech, but it doesn't belong on Advanced Tech. Moving to LT1 Tech.....

Hey, how much did your swap cost in total, including parts and labor?

There is a blue and white plug behind the pass side kick panel you should of had to unplug your v-6 ones and plug in the ones from the Lt1 harness into these. What you are going to have to do is get the v-6 harness back out and look at the one wire one the plugs and find out what wire is not in the same spot . I've done this before I don't know why GM change the one pin around but they did. I think it's on the blue plug but don't hold me to it. Once you find out what wire is hot and move it to the right spot the fuel pump and the coil will power up. Just let me know if you need anything else.

thanks phil

yes i had to hook those three wire hook ups behind the pass. side kick panel.

there's a white, black, and blue one... i determined that the black harness has the starter and fuel pump, the white one is the guages, but i still don't know what the blue one is because it is never hot, not even with the ignition on or turning over.....

however, on the black harness, there's a orange wire that is right next to the starter wire that is always hot... but there is no wire matching up with it on the other side (the computer side).... for some reason i can short the fuel pump wire and make the fuel pump come on but i cannot get it to come on when i turn the key on.

the blue harnesses do not match up (they snap in but some of the wires do not meet in the right places) so are you saying that i should just match the colors up?

which wires exactly did you have to change around?

i did change my transmission to the v8 one but i stayed with an automatic

i am thinking maybe it's my anti-theft key not matching up with my new computer, therefore not firing my distributer.

Thanks for replies!!

i paid around 1600 for the used engine and tranny, but labor didn't cost anything cause i've done everything myself... also a few hundred in basic v6-v8 conversion parts

i noticed that the fuel pump still comes on when you use the wrong impedance on the vats. So it seems to me to be something else.

When i did my swap using a 94 car and a 94 donar car some of those wires in the above plugs weren't the same but it didn't matter. Now i am not sure on obd2 stuff but i had to do nothing with vats at all or keys or any stuff like that. Perhaps

My initial thought is the neutral safety switch is not hooked up. Is the plug that goes to your shift lever installed? I went from a 5 speed to an auto so i had to trace the thick brown and yellow wires and bridge them together under the dash so my car would start and bypass the neutral safety switch.
