Urgent my new motor won't fire up

I just put the motor in my car and tired to fire it up for the first time. Nothing it cranks and cranks and every once in a while will try to hit. We checked the fuel pressure, we pulled a plug wire off and had fire. Tried trading out the icm and coil for one off a known running car. We double checked the firing order on the wires and opti. The car is a 95 there is no way the opti could be off one correct? I know the cam is in there right i looked at it my friend looked at it and the guy helping me build it verified it. The only thing is when i hold the pedal to the floor is it seems like i am getting a lot more popping out the exhaust. Any ideas guys i would love to have it running today.

Is the MAF hooked up? I'm sure you do, but you've got to cover the basics. You say there is fuel pressure, are the injectors firing?

How can the opti be indexed wrong, I though it only goes on one way? The cam dowl only fits one of the three holes, the one with a slight notch above it, right?

OK man, you probably hosed the opti install. I say this because I did the same thing and had the same results. It was horrible.

If ALL THREE points of the optispark were not 100% flush with the timing cover before you tightened, then you indexed it wrong. Mine was about 1/8" off the timing cover, maybe less, and I figured it would be alright. I figured wrong, as I've told you.

My suggestion:
Get some white-out and put a strip of it on the optispark piece where you have to index the dowel pin against. This way you can see how the optispark is oriented while installing it, rather than guessing.

The only other thing I can think of is that you hooked up the injector plugs in the wrong order. Hope this helps.

That is the way it is supposed to go on, but it can be put on wrong. Many have done it.

FastGuyJR,

well you were correct. the opti was installed wrong! somehow my friend Z95m6 didnt get the cam dowl pin in the correct spot. i told him the opti needed to lay flush on the block but oh well you live n learn. we got it back on right and she right up. unfortunately now we have run into ANOTHER snag when we installed unknowningly till now the wrong hub.. it was off a caddy. so now the car is together and runs great but throws the belt so anyway just thought id update those who want something to add to their troubleshooting abilities
