Urgent help on buddies 95z
Buddy put in shorties bbk. He has had nothing but problems since.Car starting to foul plugs virtually right away.new iridiums came out all smellling like fuel big time.
We put my scanmaster on his car and he is getting very strange readings.Readings of like 515 o2s at wot and high knock retard.Car sounds like a tractor. Its boggy and slow as heck .02 seem all messed up they were cyling for a bit at idle but bit later seem to just be sticking or something
Also he gets a trouble code but can't find it on the list..its code 29.Almost 100% sure but no code 29 can be found.his car is obd1 right..it has obd2 plug though but sure its a 95.

Re: Urgent help on buddies 95z
The o2s are reading to low at WOT, most likely there is air entering the exhaust from a bad header gasket or through the air pump plumbing. This extra air will cause the o2s to read lower causing the ECM to add more fuel to the mixture.

Its almost always a blown fuse for the AIR pump, and no that's not causing the problem. However, the main reason the fuse blows is because the pump is rusted up and taking too many amps to turn. The rustup is accelerated by exhaust flowing out of the check valves in to the pump. That would tie into the running rich issues, as noted in the post above.
Other things that cause a "false" lean and a lot of extra fuel being dumped into the system are leaks before the O2 sensors, contamination of the sensors, or misfires. Did you use new O2 sensors? Are his BBK's "coated"? Did you slather anti-sieze on the sensors when you installed them? Did you spray the sensors with rust penetrant before you removed them from the manifold/Y-pipe? Did you need to make extensions for the harness wires? All of these could be contributing to the problem.
