Upgrading my cam...

I'm looking to put a new cam in my car. Now, isn't the hotcam a little more mild than the cc305? Cuz im looking for something mild, but not really mild. I want a noticable difference, but it doens't have to be huge. Now, does that mean I should go with the cc305? If yes, then what else should I get? I've been looking through summit, and I'm not sure what all i'll need. The cam, 1.6 roller rockers, valve springs? Does anybody have part #'s from summit?

No matter which cam you go with you should get:

1.6 RR's with upgraded valve springs such as Comp 918 Bee Hives. New locks and retatiners, and new spring seats(locators). In addition, when you get the RR's you should buy non self aligning as they are stronger than seld aligning. If you buy NSA though, you need to buy hardended pushrods (Summit for budget build up, Comp Hi Techs for a all around excellent part) 7.2" if there was no head/block work done to it. A agressive, but very streetable set up, with some lope would be a LE1 cam, whcih you could get by talking to SStrokerace. For a little less aggressive of a cam, but still good for stock heads, look at the CC503, CC305, or the Hot Cam.

From what I have read, the CC305, and CC503 will lay down about 5-10 more RWHP than a Hot Cam does. Hot Cam lopes more at idle though as it has a tighter LSA (Lobe Seperation Angle). Or at least I think it does. I dont remember I read way to much about these cams before deciding to jsut save my money for LE2 heads and a LE1 cam.

The 305 & Hotcam are nearly identical. The 503 is different, and a hair bigger.

Now, would a cam from Bret or Joe Overton be considered 'custom' if it's a cam that's available to EVERYONE ?

Re: Upgrading my cam...

Bret has a cam that goes with the LE1 package that is making more power in the same rpm range as the hot cam and the 305. Would you take less power because it was available to EVERYONE?

Re: Upgrading my cam...

Bret's cam's make a good bit more power than the CC305 and the hot cam. And they are in the same RPM range like he said. Put them on ported heads and they make a significantly larger power difference over the others. If your already going that far, spend the extra 150$ to get cam from Bret or Joe O. I have dealt with Bret before and he is a fine duy to do business with. I would not hesitate to order a single thing from him. Also, he always awnsered any of my retarded questions, no matter how dumb they were.

They all pretty much need the same thing. Come Bee Hives (918s) locks and retainers , hardened pushrods, NSA RR's and GM Guide Plates, or Isky guideplates.
