Upgrading to a Hotcam, need to know about RRs and Springs
Upgrading to a Hotcam, need to know about RRs and Springs
My car is in my garage right now dismantled.
I have bought Longtube Hooker Headers (with no o2 Sensors, so i am f 'ed there), and ported and polished heads.
I also bought a LT4 Hotcam.
With the Hotcam, i heard i should upgrade a lot of things. I have weighed the facts, and have bought a new timing chain and am going to buy upgraded Springs and upgrade to 1.6 roller rockers.
I have allready put a lot of money into this massive project and am asking for you guyses advice.
What is the best value springs and 1.6rr's that i can buy in my situation. Not the best ones, the best priced ones.

Re: Upgrading to a Hotcam, need to know about RRs and Springs
I just bought the LT4 Hotcam Kit that came with 1.6 RR's, and LT4 valvesprings.... On a side note, i would do lifters too. People told me i didnt really "need" them when i did my install so i didnt put them on there... BUT, one of my lifters is collapsing on my driver side now so i have to buy some Comp R lifters to replace them.... Only telling you because i wish somebody would have told me
Good luck.
Chris

You don't have to get FULL roller rockers. You can get roller TIP rockers for a bit less than full rockers. I saved my money until I had the extra $100 for full roller rockers just because I had a feeling I would have wished I had waited 'till I had the money to get the full rockers. But it really wasn't all that necessary.

Are there any sites that i can purchase the rr's and springs? and lifters obviously now... not the best ones, the best value ones...

There are tons of sites out there, you just have to look. http://www.thunderracing.com is my personal favorite.

The stock springs can't handle the lift on a Hotcam. Save yourself the heartache and at a minimum get the LT4 springs. You can get the entire LT4 spring kit (shims, keepers, etc.) for ~$60 from Jason Cromer.

Definately get the retainers.I didn't and it cost me an engine (dropped valve). Get the LT-4 valve springs too and the new keepers that go with the new retainers.
