Update on my motor

Got some pics up of the motor I'm putting together right now... It's the one I've been in the process of buying parts for the last couple of years. AFR heads ported by Race Prep that flow 335 cfm. 383 shortblock fully blueprinted and assembled by me, including most of the machine work... Working on mocking up the top end right now. Got the heads sat on today and found the Jesel LT4 kit doesn't work on AFR heads. So I'm going to be calling them tomorrow to get that issue resolved, then hopefully once i get new stands from them it should be about ready to go on the dyno for the first session of tuning. We'll see what it makes with the heads and intake the way they are. Then I'll probably pull them off, have a guy at the shop do a little more work on the heads, and call wilson to get a sheetmetal intake made. We'll see how things go. I'll try to keep the board updated.

i don't know what your goals are but you have enough cylinder head to support close to 700 hp na. getting everything to compliment that effort is the real trick.
wilson builds very nice stuff, i'm running a dual 4 bbl setup of his on my TS car. they are pricey but well engineered. have you considered a single 4 bbl conversion, maybe edelbrock victor jr and a 4 bbl throttle body?

good luck.

Nah, I'll probably keep it injected just for the sake of originality (or shall we say nastalgia) 30 years down the road. But that is a good idea. I can see why you would suggest it... I'm just not sure that's my cup o tea for this car

Yeah, it's got potential for being a pretty steller motor. If I make between 625-650 I'll be pretty happy. After we dyno it I'll decide what I want to do. Who know's. Maybe it'll make 1500 horsepower and I can just put it back in the car and be happy. Anything less than 625 though and the top end is coming back off and we're finding a way to get another 50-75 hp out of the setup.

the engine should do that easily if everything is up to snuff.

i'm not suggesting a carb conversion but a conversion to a carb type intake with a 4 bbl throttle body, fuel rails, the whole nine. it's a much cheaper induction setup and it'll definitely be up to the task from what i can see of your setup.
i assume you are using a mechanical roller? what is your target rpm?

Yeah, actually I realized that after I read your post again... Sorry. I'll give that some thought. You bring up some interesting ideas vs. trying to run the stock style intake and throttle body system. And it would look quite trick But then I would have wasted my time messing with all this reverse cooled LT1 crap lol

Oh, yeah... mechanical roller. 261/268 at .050, close to .700 lift, on a 112 ls. Installed it 2 degree's advanced, so I'm shooting for over 7k rpm. Probably will still be making power around 7500. I sure hope the block can take this abuse Valvetrain isn't an issue though. Isky tool room gold stripes, del west titanium retainers, super sevan locks, Ferrea stainless valves, and Jesel's.

you have something blocking the opti seal.. are you planning on ditching the opti for a little better setup?

Yeah, more than likely an MSD Crank trigger setup with LS1 coil packs...
