Question Unplug Crankshaft Sensor ok to drive???

If I unplug the sensor, my SES light goes off. Can I drive the car like this? I need to pass emissions. Will unplugging it clear the codes from memory?

Here are the codes that I am getting:
P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
Po336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A CKT Range/Perf

I have replaced the sensor (3 times) I am going to check the ohms. (will have to take to someone)

The only thing the CPS does on our cars is for misfire detection. You will be fine with it unplugged. Some cars as kevin said need it to start, like the 3800 etc, but ours dont.

Awesome - With this unplugged, will the emissions people see any codes that will show this is unplugged?

I dont dont know for sure. You said the SES light went off, but thats only a start. If they plug into your computer, not sure what all you can monitor with OBD2 scan tools as i havent played with them much. Hopefully someone will give you a for sure yes/no answer.

Here in DE they plug into your car and if you have any code you will fail. With the sensor unpluged, even if the light is off you will have a code. Also one of the things they check for if misfire, they can't do this test with the sensor unpluged.

Now the SES light comes on when I unplug it. So its back in and still have the P0335/P0336 codes.

Trying to figure out why this is. I heard that I could ohm it and see if it has volts. Not that I really know what to do if it does or doesnt???

Not to hijack your thread but do you happen to have one of the old sensors laying around that I could get off ya? I dont need a working one. I have a '96 timing cover on my motor but the cars a '95 so it doesn't need the sensor but now I have a hole that needs plugged and I dont waste money on a new sensor thats not needed. I rigged up a plate to put over it but it still leaks a little.

What's wrong with buying a '95 cover? To much work to install?

Yes, it is too much work to install. Whats wrong with trying to find a used/worn out sensor to put there instead?

Yeah, I put a lot of RTV on the plate I made to cover it but I guess it wasn't enough. Oh well, guess I'll keep looking for a sensor.
