Underdrive Pullies, Electric Waterpump

Are underdrive pullies worth the money? Or should I just remove the serpentine belt between each pass? Which ones would you guys recommend?

What is a good electric waterpump to get, and how hard is the install?

Thanks
Matt

most people don't consider pulleys in lt1s to be worth the money because of the very poor gains, also some people experience balancer problems since most pulleys simply operate piggy-back style on the old harmonic balancer. In order to do it right, you have to replace the whole harmonic balancer. Pulling the belt should net you a solid 1-2 tenths in the 1/4 though. As far as installation of the water pump check here.

The CSI water pump you have to grind the water pump housing to make room for the ears on the new pump.

With the meziere pump you have to remove the electric fans.

Thats the only difference between the two

Also dyno numbers:

power pulleys

water pump

Re: Underdrive Pullies, Electric Waterpump

I had the crank pulley, nothing seat of the pants of course but it did seem to rev quicker but who knows maybe that was just the winter time

On the good side I think it turns accessories slower and giving them more life but who cares accessories are cheap and easy to install (well, for some people and that doesnt include me )

I had charging problems when sitting in traffic, lights would dim sometimes and the volts would be fairly low. Took off my pulley 20k miles ago or so because of the annoyance and no notice of power gain. Just my insight, good luck with the mods

Ok thanks, I'll just remove the belt for each pass. Thank you for the WP info too. Think I can gain a solid tenth/mph from the pump?

An underrive in itself (bolt on style isnt worth much). If you get an ASP pulley, you get to replace the stock balancer, so you save bunches of rotating weight there. Problem running with no belt is lower voltage to PCM and fuel pump, which isnt a good thing. I was marginally faster .05 without a belt as oppossed to a bolt on pulley, but with a replacement pulley (ASP), i have seen people be slower without the belt that with.

h20 pump = all good. Mezerie you dont have to remove the fans, just knotch them a tad to clearence. The CSI is much cheaper and just requires a few knotches in the pump housing. From what i have read, the internals of the pumps are made by the same people.

If you remove the belt I wouldnt spray if you have it do to weaker ignition plus if you put a elec water pump more juice load on bat. Some guys who run eletric juice parts on drag cars use 16 volt batts but I wouldnt with a pcm type car. I would get the asap. Isnt it sfi approved also.

I pulled mine off for 2 passes at the track and the car missed horribly up top... My battery was pretty new to...

I agree. This is exactly the set-up I have w/ a CSI h2o pump. I couldn't recommend running w/o a belt, based on several posts on the subject on this board. With the ASP pulley, etc it would seem the gains, no matter how small, would be better than the no belt approach. Hope this helps!

Re: Underdrive Pullies, Electric Waterpump

Matt I jsut ordered the CSI pump from Summit for $159 and the gasket set for $2.39. IM me and Ill give ya the part numbers if you need them. I would have ordered from Jegs but summit has it $10 cheaper at the moment

Also after talking to Eddie he also agreed he could'nt see why the crank pulley had to come off to take the water pump off. But Iguess ill find out.

Re: Underdrive Pullies, Electric Waterpump

I just installed my asp balancer replacement pulley. I swear I can feel alittle difference. The engine runs smoother, revs faster and is seems quicker. I had the piggyback style once and didn't notice any improvemet and I think it added vibration to my motor. I have a csi waterpump waiting to go in just haven't had time to change. Hope it adds a couple of hp.

Where can you get the ASP balancer pulley setup and how much does it cost? I have been looking into it for some time now.

I got mine from lmperformance.com. You can also get it direct from asp. I would buy direct because lm just had it drop shipped from asp and the price was the same 144. ASP website is aspracing.com. Another dealer is rpmoutlet.
