Underdrive Pullies?
Underdrive Pullies?
Does anyone have underdrive pullies on their car? Is it worth it? I read in a recent issue of GM High Tech Performance that they produced 17rwhp and around 15 ft/lb on a TPI Camaro. Has anyone installed these and gotten dyno proven gains like these?
Blake, I don't want to steal your thread, but I was curious on this issue as well. What effect does it have on the charging system and A/C. Can I expect my sub to pound hard, and my A/C to be cold?

The set I'm looking at is the March pullies. I too was worried about charging (stereo, headlights, etc.) but the set includes an underdrive crank pulley, and an overdrive alternator pulley. They claim that it eliminates the problems with charging. And the set only costs around $105 from Jeg's so I figure it's worth a shot.

I have an Aeromotive crank pulley and the only problem I have seen is my lights dim a little with the car in gear at idle.
I have no AC but I do have a relatively big stereo and I have had no problems with it. In fact I still have the original alternator on the car with 135k.
Just depends on how far you want to go to get those last few bolt on horsepower.

ok, just a couple of quick comments, its a very small power gain, (check out the dynos on ws6.com) - like .2 or something rwhp. The thing about pullies is, they're more of a cumulative mod, if you've done some internals you might just see a 10rwhp gain from them, because the added power you've gained is being lost (mmm parasites). I wouldn't risk my system's power on .2 ponies though - bottom line. =) I know this thread is old but someone had to say it.
Take a closer look at the dyno graph at www.ws6.com and you'll see a peak gain of alomst nothing however under the curve there's about 5rwhp and 5 rwtq gain. Imo for only a 100 bucks it's not a bad mod. I had them on my 97z for over a year and it was an auto, aside from the light dimming when it was in gear I never had any charging problems or dead batteries.
