Question Underdrive pulley? Good/bad? Why?

I keep seeing underdrive pullies on eBay for around $50 or so that claim to gain you around 10-15 HP......

Is this really true? I e-mailed the seller who has great feedback and asked about any adverse affects with alternator output, etc and he stated at around 1,000 RPM everything works fine. Does that mean that at idle my output may be low?

Anyone here use one? Likes/dislikes?

Let me know what you all think, thanks!

They're fine as long as you buy the 2-pulley setup...

Most people will say to not waste your time. I had them on my '92 (3 piece) and I will NEVER put them on another vehicle. You comprimise too much for 2-5 hp. I wish I had it with me, but look at High Performance Pontiac this month, and they go into a very in-depth explanation on why these as well as ported MAF's are a waste of money. They don't have their website updated, but hopefully someone has the issue nearby

I haven't heard anything bad about them.....I don't know about 15 HP....maybe 5 at the wheels. I think WS6.com dyno'ed at like 7 HP gain. Some people don't think it's worth the time and money but some people think every HP counts....its up to you.

Kinda thought that they would not be that big of a deal.......5 HP is not something you would feel in the SOTP where I would like to notice it.
I have seen the 2 pulley setups too, same thing there it sounds like. I might do it if I had like 395 HP and wanted to get to that 400 HP barrier, but it does not seem justified at this point.

Thanks!

You might gain a few hp ... at 6000 RPM!

Underdrive pullies aren't worth the money and the time to install. I doubt you'll even feel the gain. It definately won't help you win any races.

at best on the dyno where it counts it's good for 3-6 maybe and that's pushing it. But it also makes your car a little more throttle responsive I've noticed at least on mine. I have one but I paid 30 bucks for it from a friend. Justy my .02

How can they not be a positive? A 2-pulley set will lessen the parasitic loss and provide improved throttle response.

The small cost and the ease of installation make ODs a good deal in my opinion.

Increasing performance requires a complete package, including the little things that help the big things work better.

That is a good point Bubba makes......

Damn, now I can't make up my mind! Sheesh! I am concerned about the output of the alternator though, what has everyone seen with that?

Output will be fine. I am running an electric h20, and amp for subs. Only time it gets me worried are when the cooling fns kick on, and you also have the heat/ac fans blow. Even then it will read high 11-low12 volts.

i suggest spending more money and buying the ASP pulley. Its not a bolt on pulley like the cheap ones, and actuall replaces the stock pulley. This cuts down a ton on rotating mass

I like my March 2-pulley set. You will need a different Serp. Belt if you get them.

Tip: If you get Alt. pulley you will be glad if you have the alt. pulley removed and installed with an impact wrench.

Vist your local garage and have them do the Alt. pulley swap.

I have an aeromotive and I run just the crank pulley and have had no problems, I have big stereo and stuff too.
I do have an Optima battery and the charge is a little low at idle whith the car in gear, but I have never had any problems and I have 136k on the stock alternator.

Wow, someone who actually understands the importance of how minor modifications can add up...

I have a friend who ran at the local track, and then he bolted a crank pulley up at the track and his second run was .15 quicker, call it what you want but I am sold in their being useful.
