Uggg, always something (carnage pic)

Its always something preventing my car from going out racing. I was finally getting close

I started hearing a LOUD thumping tonight, sounded just like my car when the pistons ate the valves (another story altogether).

Pull over, pop hood and it looks like my valve cover is experiencing an exorcism with a rocker arm trying to beat its way out of it. Turb the car off and this is what you get.

7/16 upgraded stud....

I guess shaftmounts are next

Holy crap.

To make things worse I had a nightmare last night where one of my rockers flew off the stud repeating my last 2 failures. My god was i happy to wake up.

Ive had the same guideplates and studs for years. They were never perfect, but pretty close. The pushrods are the right length. I have .100 to coil bind.

Maybe a combo failure, guideplates off a little, older studs, and then upgrade to new cam and springs (200/550) and thats enough to fatigue the metal and break it.

I have the car at school too, which means I am without 99% of my tools. I guess I have to grab the trailer this weekend and make an all day roadtrip.

Personally, I would say that a healthy hydraulic roller, and definitly any solid roller, I would go to shaft mounts. I upgraded to Jesel SS shafts last year, and I will never look at a stud mount rocker again. Once you have a good stud rocker, studs, poly locks, and a girdle, you are just about at the cost of shafts, without all of that crap trying to get stuffed under your valve covers. Not to mention, they are WAY more sturdier than a stud mount and a girdle. Trust me, go for them, you will be glad you did! If you want to take a better look at them, fellow board member Brettinator has posted several pics of his Jessel SS' atop his AFR heads recently.
