Two questions about optis
Two questions about optis
Ok, i just finished changing my opti, and i have two questions.
First, when i took off the opti. I noticed a small ring around the bit that sticks into the engine.(very techincal, huh?) It doesn't look like a watertight seal. And it doesn't look like it holds anything in place. I was just wondering, what does it do?(i mean, i know the gm guys put it there for a reason.)
And i've been having battery problems, so im pretty sure the battery is dead. We put it on a charger, let it set for a few minutes. And tried to start it. It is making a wierd noise when the key is in the on position. Kinda like the beeping when the key is in the ignition, only grainy. And the speedo jumps up to 20mphs,. In the past, when the battery died, i just beeped weakly, or nothing at all. Any clues.

Are you using a vented or unvented opti? Mine had a bad/deep ring worn into the spline shaft where the seal ran on it but I will be darned if I can find one though.
And your battery is toast, I've seen that many times before. It's like a weak "key in the ignition" ding because it isn't getting enough power. If you have a volt meter put it on the battery and check the voltage when you try to start it, it shouldn't be below 11 volts usually. 10 and below I would say a bad cell in it.

I figured that it was the battery, i had to charge it for two days to get it to over here.(we did the work at my cousins house.) So its called a deep ring huh? What does it do? I mean, it looks like it would be a water seal, cept it doesn't look water tight. Its a non-vented opti.

Keep trying to fire up your car with a bad battery and the starter will be next on your "to do" list.
