Turndown right after hooker shorties?
Ok, heres what im thinking in terms of my new exhaust setup... I am getting coated hooker shortie headers and y pipe. My original plan was to make and ORP the same time I install the headers, so i can still use my cat for emmissions. My new idea is to just remover the cat from my catback system, find somehing to leave the catback hanging but disconected, and just put a turndown right out of my y-pipe. I am looking for the most possible power gains, and sound is not an issue. I am just wondering if running the headers into a turndown will have enough backpressure to function properly. I figure its the same as having a cutout b4 the cat, jus requires less welding. Lemmie know what ya think!

You may say "sound is not an issue" now, but after a few thousand miles of ear splitting resonance and having everything in the interior vibrating like crazy, you might reconsider.
I run AS&M mid-lengths, with collectors modified to dump straight back like LT's. I have a 3" Borla XR-1 shorty mufler on each collector.... that's it. The noise level and resonance is excruciating.... although I only have to listen to it 1/4-mile at a time..... :d
Our local track now requires 90dB at 100' under full load, no collector mufflers, and the exhaust must dump behind the rear edge of the door.... so I am adding a length of 3" straight pipe, and got a pair of 90-deg turndowns with "cone" type noise reduction inserts.... hopefully this will solve the severe resonance. A buddy of mine did the same, without the "cones" on his LS1, and it is MUCH more bearable.
Just a thought.
