What exactly makes the turn signal lever stay in one position until you turn? I have a car here that when turning left it is fine, but the lever won't stay in the turn right position. It will not pass inspection because this, is this something I can attempt to fix?

I got a simillar problem. my right signal works fine. but the left signal stays on until I turn it off.

 

You will probably have to replace the switch in the column or there might be a part in there that is broken. At any rate, a teardown of the column is likely in order.
