For a little while now I've had turn signal problems. Started as once in a while the left one wouldn't blink, just come on solid. Then it started doing it on the right hand side instead of the left. Now, it does it rarely on the left again and the right hardly ever will actually blink. Checked the tail bulbs and they are fine. Looked in my trusty dusty Haynes book and couldn't make heads or tails of where the heck the flasher is or how you can check it. Got any ideas??

 

Mine is under the dash.But when I had brake light problems,after replacing some bulb sockets,and grounding problems,I still had to have the brake light switch replaced.(again,under the dash).Good to go now for over two years.Hope this helps.

does your taillights all light up? mine did the same thing turned out to be the tail light harness. and check them with the car on.

 

Find your flasher here, if you need to play with it.

 

The lights all light up and when you push on the breaks the inner one lights up and the outer one goes off....Turn the signal and the inner one lights, the front lights, and the outer one doesn't. Good bulb in it. Any way to test the flasher or just swap a new one in and try it?

Edit: Outer = second light from the middle of the car, not outer most bulb.

 

That sounds like bad sockets (common problem) or wiring/grounding problems in the rear harness section. Check all your rear sockets for corrosion. Clean and regrease bulbs. Check harness grounds.
Still, if you want to replace the flasher, they are cheap.

 

I assume you just use dielectric grease on them? I did notice today that when they do flash, the outer bulbs blink a split second after the inner ones come on. Almost like I have sequential tails installed. I'll go check, I didn't see any signs of corrosion when I swapped out the bulbs, but...I guarantee there's no grease in the sockets either. just get a taillight harness out of a wrecked ls1, youll be glad you did. i tried gettign the stocker to work till i threw it out and got one off a ls1. they have much better designed sockets and brighter bulbs. you can also check the ground on it, but most likely the sockets are messed up internally.

 

i had to replace my front left socket, the socket alone costed me 65 from the dealer and an hour of labor. it was stupid

 

my harness cost me 25 bucks off e bay.

 

Bulb grease, not dielectric. I have seen little packages of it at the auto parts store.

 

Dang....didn't work. Seems to be a wiring problem or at least electrical part. Guess I'll have to start diagnosing somehow. Any testing I can do with the ol' multi-meter?

Mine are sequential.Bulb greese part #cpk-1k-- from AGS manufacturing,seals and protects.About a buck.Hope this helps.

 

Found it...2 of the sockets, the outer one on each side, I had to take the blue clip off and pull the ground wire and hold it tight so we could ziptie/tape it. What's the best way to fix this correctly?
