Tuning?!?!

I have long tube headers, ram air and no cats. Should i get a tune now? how much will it add?

In a few months im wanting to get a cam and roller rocker arms. I think should wait till then, cause i have heard they are expensive.

Will a cam without with a tuning make me lose hp?

You don't "need" a tune at this time.... but just leaning out the overly rich "target A/F ratio" used in power enrichment (PE = WOT) mode is good for a quick 15HP. If you want to get it tuned now, and then have it revised later for the cam, etc, most of the tuners will give you a reduced cost on the revisions. Whether you need a tune with a cam depends on how radical it is, but even the LT4 HOT cam can benefit from a little tweeking. Most likely the answer is "you will get more HP with the correct tune."

yeah thats what i was thinking, but my friend told me that i would lose hp if i got a cam and didnt get a tune. but around here i have heard of tunes going for around $400. and that is alot, i would rather not get all i can and wait till i get more parts.

Get a tune from Ion Solton (Madwolf here on the board). He operates a website that does mail order PCM tuning. Tons of people have used him, including myself, and he's a great guy to deal with. He'll blow that $400 outta the water too.

Well, with a dyno tune, you get to make changes and see the results of those changes right then and there. It helps with fine tuning it a little bit more for each individual setup, while a mail-order tune would be more of a "ball-park" type tune.

A good tuner(like Ion) will get so close to the right numbers that often a dyno tune is a waste of money other than you get to know what your actual hp #'s are. I mail ordered an ecu for my turbo acura then he drove from CT to meet me and it was so perfect he didnt even make any adjustments other than adding a little timing back in. Waste of $250.
