Tune-up Questions
Tune-up Questions
im going to be changing my passenger side O2 sensor and changing the tranny fluid and filter tomorrow morning. i have a couple questions though...
1. my pass exhaust manifold has a little lip of metal that makes it impossible to get a wrench or socket around the sensor, so i have to take it off, the question is, will i need to put a new gasket back on, or can i reuse the old one?
2. has anyone changed their tranny fluid before? i bought some seafoam tranny tune stuff and im gonna dump that in there tonight, run off some miles, then change the fluid and filter tomorrow morning, but what all do i need? how much fluid? what kind of filter? do i need any new gaskets or seals?
THANKS FOR THE HELP.

The exhaust manifolds have ball type flanges and require no gaskets.
I have changed the transmission fluid, but I did it when the tranny was out of the car.
I think I may have used 10-12 quarts, but someone else will give you a more precise number.
If your tranny has some mileage on it, (100K or more) some people recommend NOT changing the fluid since fresh fluid may cause clutches to slip. I did it on a 130K mile tranny and it was fine, but it may not be for too long with a new engine in front of it.
You can buy a filter kit from autozone. It will come with an oil pan gasket, filter and filter o-ring. That's all you need.
(I replaced all the seals when I did mine, but again, the tranny was out of the car)
Also, if you do change the tranny fluid, get some regular fluid. I've also seen reports of tranny failures with fancy fluids like the B&M Trick Shift.

i was talking about taking the exhaust manifold off of the engine, because the lip of metal is on the exhaust manifold right above the y-pipe, so i have to take it all off, and there isnt any room in there to try to cut the lip.
i was planning on using just regular ATF, but now you've got me worried. the car does have over 100k, just slightly though. i just figured it would be a good thing to do because im sure it didnt get done too often. ive put about 20k on the car myself and i didnt change the fluid yet.

Incase you haven't ever pulled the trans pan......it will be messy. If you already know the procedure ignore this. Start at the front and remove the front pan bolts, working you way to the rear--this allows the pan to tip forward and poor the fluid in a large contaner........i wen't to Wal-mart and got a wide/low 28Qt plastic tub that you store stuff in......works great. It also helps if you can have someone hold the pan while you remove the last bolt.....to keep her steady. Other than that it's just replace the filter, fluid, and pan gasket, and then pour in 6 Qt of fluid, run it and keep adding till she is full........just don't overfill.......makes her act all weird.
