What would you do, ship off your PCM and have someone program it, or buy the cable and let them email the program to you? What are the beifits of each and drawbacks? Thanks!

I bought the cable and had my program emailed. A benefit to having the cable is that you can use some of the free software out there to check your sensor readings and scan for codes etc. Of course you need to have a laptop or a desktop within reach of your vehicle. Another benefit to having the program emailed is that you have your new program faster than if it were sent through the mail.

Is it on your PCM permantly. Like if you disconnect your battery, do you have to reload the program? Also is there any chance of screwing up your PCM?

Unless you have lt1 edit for obdii or are converting to obdi I don't think you can use the email tuning for your '96

It is permanent. I can also load the stock program back if I need to. And yes, there is a chance of screwing up your PCM. For instance, if your laptop ran out of power in the middle of loading the program. I always use the power cord and even if the electricity went off, the battery would kick in on my laptop so I'm safe there.
