think my tranny is shot?

well the other night i was driving around like normal and i kinda hit the gas a little and when the tranny went to shift from 1st to 2nd the back tires which are pretty bald spun and when they caught traction it made a pop noise. the abs inop light came on and this isn't the first time this has done this but the transmission was acting funny after that....... the car seemed as if it was upshifting and downshifting at 40mph from 3rd to 2nd by itself. felt really really weird and i just decided to take it easy on the car after that but i was on the highway going to work the other day and it just decided to not go into 2nd at all...... i could take it all the way up to redline without it shifting but as soon as i let of the gas and hit the brake a bit it shifts to 2nd and then i have to repeat that to get to 3rd, 4th etc...... the guy i bought the car from said that the tranny was built at 78000 miles with TCI parts and a shift kit. it now has 86000 miles on the car.... how can this tranny be gone in 8000 miles??? someone ever heard of anything like that this or might just confirm to me that it is the whole tranny or something littler than the entire thing.... thanks guys

Try this out....romp on the gas and take it to the redline to see if it bounches off the rev limiter. If so then it needs another rebuild. To me, it does sound like it is slipping as you have decribed it.
