Tubular K-Member Advice

I'm considering a BMR Tubular K-Member since my stock K-Member is out right now. I obviously like the weight savings but I'm also looking forward to the greater accessibility it seems to afford. I have a few questions I hoped someone could answer.

I am very concerned about the addition of engine vibration or any vibration for that matter? I'm looking at the unit that comes with the built-in motor mounts and I have to wonder if this mod creates a ton of vibration.

Also, does this change really provide the amount of additional access that it appears it would?

Any down sides to this that I should be aware of?

TIA

Brook,

If I get the K-Member I don't intend to replace the arms right away. I will stick with the stock A-Arms for awhile. Mostly for cost reasons right now. Did you get the BMR unit or another? I didn't see any A-Arms on their web site.

Is there still some rubber dampners in the motor mounts or is it a direct configuration? The write up on their Web Site doesn't say or look like it so I should call but .....

That's the one I have and I like it. The main reason I bought it too was for more access. I didn't notice any more vibration than before but, I have/had poly engine mounts, poly tranny mount, and spherical rod end on the torque arm so I get a lot of vibration anyway.

I just installed a PA k-member and solid motor mounts (still have stock a-arms - I'm poor )

I havent noticed anymore vibrations than before - with the stock k-member and stock motor mounts.

Any inputs on which is better, BMR vs PA? At what point is the chrome moly needed, hard road racing or pulling the wheels at the dragstrip?

Did you have any problems clearing your LT's with this k member? I have jet hot long tubes and they touch the k member on the pass. side. havent started it yet so i dont know if it will be a problem

I thought, on a daily driver, you would have to watch for deflection bcuz they arnt as rigid as the stock one. I heard that is especially true with road racing.

The BMR k-member is one of the best mods I have done so far. Weight savings, accessability is so much better. Putting my headers in took maybe 1/2 hour, spark plugs about the same time...I would have bought it years ago if I had known it made working on the car so much easier.

But, if you are running an aftermarket oil pan, you might have to ask BMR to modify the k-member so it will clear the oil pan.

It took my about 2 hours with not knowing what to do. If a bud bought one, not very long.

My motor was also out of the car.

You will need an alignment when your done though...or should get one.

What do you do about mounting the brake line that runs to the passenger side? I think it would be pretty cheap looking and kinda unsafe to use zip ties.

All great responses. It seems like everyone is pleased with their decision and the results.

I am still interested in the difference between the BMR and the PA units though? The PA unit (with motor mounts) is about $100 less expensive than the same version of the BMR.

Any thoughts to share here?

Also, how about the decision between the "mild steel" fabrication and the "chrome moly"? My car is driven mostly for pleasure and an occassional drag day.

Thanks again,

Paul
