Question True Duals with OR without x-pipe? ---

I am about to go true duals w/ LT's. Does the x-pipe just give it a better sound, or does it flow better somehow? Thanks

i guess from what i have read is that a cross over pipe is always a good thing. it will never rob you of power, and in 60% of the tests it raised whp by an average of 5-8whp, up to 12whp. the other 40% received no gain. i will try to find the link for you.

I searched 5 deep in h OR x pipe threads and the only thing I could find is the "balancer" pipes change the pitch. H being lower grumble and the x a more high pitch.

The h supposedly adds torque, and the x more topend?! ---

*none of the threads really explained WHY these things work....to me the sound waves/pressure would be bouncing all around and causing some intererence with each other causing a negative effect to performance , but maybe not the sound ---

X-pipe is the best. It was tested in a few reputable magazines were it produce more power that an h-pipe or open headers. It balances the exuast pressure a lot better than an h-pipe and produces more power because of the scaveging effect.

"True" duals without a x or h pipe sounds good too. I have a 67 camaro and it sounds awesome. There is no sound better imo.

I beg to differ: an off road h-pipe setup on a 4.6L mustang.

I've always been told that x-pipes are the best performers, but h-pipes sound better. Do the x-pipe.

vipers don't sound good because the v-10 fires cylinders in pairs.....therefore it sounds like a large cubic inch 5 cylinder

im running true dauls into flowmasters with straits and turned down right behind the muffler. I had full straits out the back and they sounded good but it wasnt what i was looking for and had them chopped off. i like the turndowns, it has a nice low rumble and they let your exhaust flow a lot better. I can definately feel a difference in low end power and it makes a nice dust cloud driving through parking lots.

This is true. X is better for power, and H is better for sound. Peronally i went H and i love the way it sounds. The guy that did my dumps recomended that I go H and I'm not disappointed.

Everyone I have asked says go H or X. Straight pipes are cool for the bragging rights but why give up the power or sound?

I run true duals with purple horny header mufflers exiting in turndowns after the muffler.
Its very short and has no crossover at all. I love the way it sounds and the big thing is the exhaust never gets in the way while working on the car.
And trust me, true duals without a crossover will never be mistaken for 2 four cylinders side by side.......
