Has anyone here done true duals with full-sized muffers, but has modified the floor pan in some way so they don't hang down and look obscene? I'm going to be doing this soon for clearance issues and was wondering if anyone has pics and/or general tips. The current plan is to have the dip for the rear seats cut out of the floor pan then have a flat replacement welded in since I don't have the rear seats.

why do you want full sized mufflers?

if youre just trying to get it quieter than the bullets most people use...........there are longer bullets that are substantially quieter..........summit has 24" and 30", and they dont require a lot of space like regular mufflers.......they are only 3.5" across total outside diameter i think.

ive got 30" chambered on my true duals and its very tame, you wouldnt guess i have longtubes and true duals if you heard my car.

Yes, partially to keep the noise down. I'm not so much concerned about idling and low rpm stuff, but I don't want to be heard from 6 away at WOT or even part throttle. In addition to that, I've heard that even the 3" chambered mufflers are fairly restrictive. Also, I feel like doing it cause no one else really does it.

ive seen it done on an ls1... he didnt modify the bottom any... he just had the long tubes going through an hpipe and finishing through some flowmaster mufflers (2 or 3 chamber)... ground clearance is terrible (if your ever behind him you can see his mufflers dangling about 3 inches from the ground it seems). however if you can get around the clearance, the sound is freaking amazing , on an ls1 anyways...

I have true duals with Aerochamber mufflers under the car dumping at the rear axle. I sometimes scrape the mufflers but if you take it easy there should not be a problem. It is a tight fit...I was going to modify my floor pan but didnt, too much work.

My friend has a 98 Z28 with a weird "H" pipe and true dual Flowmaster 40's series. They had to bang up the floorboard to get em to fit...I wouldn't suggest doing it, but if you REALLY want it, I guess you could. Do like me, go with the Bullets. They rock.

Eh, I've had duals with bullets. Too loud for me.

I'm not going to bang up the floor pan, I'm gonna have it cut and then welded to get rid of the dip where the rear seats are, so there'll be room for the mufflers.

RacinLT1, I've seen that Mufflex setup. I looked again and I actually don't think that the floor is modified. If it is I sure couldn't tell...

Jim,
Do a "paging Zone" post in the MI section.
He's done it, very nicely I might add. I believe he's
living in AA now.
