True Dual Exhaust ?'s

I am planning on getting some hooker LT's in the next couple months and want to convert to a true dual setup. Where should I place the H pipe for the best performance gain? I know the x pipe is better, but from what I have heard it is harder to fit under the car. I don't want the pipes dumping before the axle, is there anyway to get them both over the axle and exit out the back? Where should the mufflers go? I was thinking about running 2.5" pipe and two dynomax bullet mufflers. Should the mufflers go right after the car or back farther?

If anybody has any pics of there setup it would help me a lot.

Thanks.

there are some pictures of true duals out the back, if you do a search under true duals or X pipe you might find some. The problem is getting a shop that will do it, many are afraid it wont work, and if they are willing, they wil surely charge a very high amount. The placement of the bullit mufflers fit perfectly next to the trunk, in those wells on the left and right side of it, thats where I would put them, it will give great clearance under the car as well. When you look under the car you will see what I mean.

Does anybody have a setup where it exits out the back? I would really like pics of that. Also where did you guys place the H pipe? How much did you guys pay to have the setup made?

Thanks.

An 'X' is not to hard to fit.

And I think it sounds better than a lawnmower

hey Ken

how would a spohn race torque arm fit ur true duals ?? the one with the cross brace not tailshaft mounted one

i really dont like the idea of having another tailshaft mounted torque arm .. so im wondering how easy it is to fit a nice torque arm with an X pipe

To answer you question- i got rid of my spohn T/A that had a crossmember so i could do the duals....

I dont think its to feesable, well it could be done but youd have no ground clearance

I actually just had this done about a week ago, and I have the Spohn arm. It's a little different than most however Although, I have AS&M Headers which made it much more possible, and I love it. Basically what it does is use 2 3" pipes off of the headers, and it goes to the passenger side, through the Dr. Gas X, then through 2 bullets that dump to the right side. Basically, it dumps just like a cutout would, but with 2 pipes. It's loud as all hell in the car, especially since it's right under the passenger seat, but I couldn't imagine it much if any louder than a cutout, plus it sounds much better than a cutout IMO. Best of all, I have more ground clearance than with my Y-pipe with a 3" catback on. You can't see it under the car from most angles, and only barely if you're bent down on the passenger side. I'd love to take pics, but unfortunately it's in the shop right now. Hope this gives some ideas.

Is there anyplace that you can buy the X pipe or does it have to a custom setup? I used to have dr. gas's website but since I reformated I lost it, if somebody could post it again please.

Also i am more consernd about the exits. I know the dual exhaust is do-able, but I really don't want the dump before the pipe. I would hate to have to sell my SLP quad tip setup, which hasn't been put on the car yet.

Couldn't the two 2.5" pipes fit over the axle where the normal cat-back exhaust would go over? It would be tight......what do you guys think?

If you use 2.5 inch pipes then it should fit up over the axle - there's pictures of a 2.5 inch over the axle setup floating around somewhere - I've seen it. For me, I thought that sharp bend would be too restrictive so I dumped the exhaust just before the axle. The car actually looks good and very clean without those tips showing - a little weight reduction and one less thing to clean/polish . You want the x about 18" from the header collector. I used something like 30" bullets to tone things down a lot and tucked them up along the ds and torque arm. Yes things fit and I haven't had ground clearance problems as of yet (though the car is not lowered). The mufflers should go as far back as possible if you want them to do much toning down. The closer they are to the exit the quiter things will be. Oh, and this should be a job you should do yourself - if you pay a shop to do it you'll get raped. We welded/clamped everything and even fabbed the x outta some elbow pieces. Some stainless flex piping was also very handy . Sorry, no pictures yet..

Good luck man,

Thanks Lost. I would love to do it at home, but I don't have a welder, and I don't know how to weld. I would like to use the Dyno max Bullet 16" 2.5" in and out. They are only 4" round so they shouldn't cause any ground clearance problems, but my car isn't lowered either. I would like to lower it later on, but I will wait to see how much the exhaust sags. Thanks guys for all your advice.
