Trouble code help
Trouble code help
My check engine light has been on for a long time. I thought it was just the egr (deleted) but I had it tuned out and the light is still on. So I got it scanned and of course, i can't find the paper where I wrote down the code, but it was somthing like 1361 or 1351 and they said somthing about an ignition misfire. Can anybody shed some light on this?
Tomarrow im going to go buy a cheap obd2 scanner.
EDIT: forgot to mention, the car is running flawlessly and im getting decent gas milage, so there is no problem that im aware of.

Re: Trouble code help
P1351 = Ignition control circuit high voltage
P1361 = Ignition control circuit low voltage.
The misfire codes are all in the P030x series....P0300 = random misfire, P0301 = Cylinder #1 misfire, etc.

Re: Trouble code help
hmm well on that little cheap-*** scaner advanced had it said somthing about a misfire. Ill believe you 100x more then I would that cheap scanner though.
I might go get it scanned somewhere else and make sure its says the same thing before i get to crazy buying parts.
"hmm, an icm? might as well get a new cam while I have the hood up"

Re: Trouble code help
ok well i got a new icm put in. I fired it up and it idled like garbage and would die right away. If you gave it gas, it would run fine, but as soon as you hit idle, she dies.
So I jiggled a few wires and made sure everything was tight, and I tried again. This time it would idle without dying, but it sounded like it had a .800 lift cam.
I disconnected the battery again to reset the pcm, then we'll see what happens i guess. Ideas?

Re: Trouble code help
Ok, i just bought a cool little code reader. On sale for 50 bucks. It gave me code 1361. The car still won't idle at all. It idles at about 500 and just dies right away.
Is 1361 IC Circuit Low Voltage? What does that mean to me?
Thanks for the help guys

Re: Trouble code help
You can find the LT1-specific code list on Shoebox's Tech Pages. Note the tabs at the bottom of the screen for OBD-I, OBD-II, etc.
http://shbox.com/1/Dtcs.htm
That code is the equivalent of DTC 42 on OBD-I. Its one of the hardest codes to sort out, because it can be caused by a number of components, from the Opti to the coil to the IC Module to the PCM. There is a fairly detailed diagnostic "logic tree" in the factory manual. That will walk you through the diagnostic procedure and help you eliminate the possible components one at a time.
You just need to find a copy of the tree..... not sure if Shoebox has it or not. I do have a copy of it for a 93, but its probably pretty much the same for all the years of LT1. If you can't find a more current copy, I could fax you a copy.

Re: Trouble code help
Replaced the coil....yeah that wasn't it either. Havn't even had the car a month and nothing but **** so far.
Im going to put in my old PCM and see what that does.

Re: Trouble code help
put my old pcm in and that wasn't it either.
So its not the icm, not the coil, and not the pcm. Does that just leave the opti? If it was fuel related, i wouldn't be getting code 1361 would I?

Re: Trouble code help
You're getting the code for a grounded ignition system. I can't see the fuel causing that. You appear to have ruled out the other problems, except for frayed wires, corrosion on the various terminals (including the Opti harness connectors), etc. I'd check all those before replacing the Opti. When I get home tonight I'll look at the logic diagram to see if there's anything else you need to check.
Re: Trouble code help
ok, i appriciate it a bunch man.
I just find it wierd that the car ran perfectly fine (but still throwing the code) until i changed the icm. As soon as I did, it started running like poo. When I swapped the old one back in, it still ran like poo. Its like the extra juice from the new icm fried somthing.
Ill try to look at all the connections here in a few. Im too frustrated right now to see strait.
