Trouble code 43

My ses came on last night at the track, my last pass, it stuggled to rev in 1st gear. The carr missed all the way home. Tonight I checked it and it said code 43 Electronic spark control failure. Hopefully its not the opti. Has anyone had problems like this if it was the coil, module, or something else?

Re: Trouble code 43

Its the knock sensor. Either the sensor is dead or the wire is bad. Key on, remove the single wire from the knock sensor, and probe between the wire and the block with a volt meter. Should read 5V. Then, connector still off, probe between the pin on the sensor and the block with the meter set on ohms. Should read between 3,500-5,500 ohms (4,400ohms is the right value). Put the connector back on, and probe from the wire to the block. Should read 2.5V.

If you don't get 5V on the wire, its a wiring problem. If you don't get the correct ohms on the sensor, its a sensor problem.

Thanks for the heads up Fred, I'll check that first thing in the morning. Btw, do they make a less sensitive knock sensor for replacements?

Re: Trouble code 43

Not aware of any "less sensitive" knock sensors. You can wrap the threads with teflon tape, and that is supposed to help (never tried it). Don't over-torque it and that may help. You can adjust the "sensitivity" with an external circuit, or you can adjust the programming for how fast the PCM pulls the timing out, and how fast it puts it back in.
