trottle body gaskets

Question throttle body gaskets

Hey guys i was needing to know. How important is the rubber gasket that is on top of the throttle body under the black cover .Mine is all stretched out like carb cleaner was used on it. i just replaced it a year ago and its the same way again . also looks like its a dealer item also? also how important is it to have the water lines hooked up to the throttle body can i bypass the throttle body?

It is a throttle body and yes you can bypass the coolant. It is a common mod.

The gasket gets stretched looking from being exposed to the oil in the PCV system. It won't harm anything as long as the edges are sealing.

You can get the gasket in this kit from the dealer.
