Angry water pump wiring problems!?

I have had my CSI water pump hooked up to my car for almost 3 years now. i used this scematic to hook it up.

http://ken.lowrance.com/Projects/CSI.../Schematic.jpg

It stoped working the other day
I found it blew the 15 amp fuse. I checked every thing, and it will still work, but it keeps blowing fuses? I tried to run it with out the fuse and the wires get hot. What is wrong here? Is the pump motor dead? I mean it will run, but it blows the fuse. I replaced the relay also.

Cant figure this out???

Re: water pump wiring problems!?

Mine did the same thing about a month ago, I was on the road and all I had for a spare was a 20 amp fuse so I used it and it worked fine. The car isn't my daily driver and after a few weeks I forgot about it as it ran fine on the occassional trip around home. Last week it blew again and when I replaced the fuse it would only last about 5 minutes. I checked the wiring and found the wire was getting hot. I pulled the pump and found the impellar [sp?]teeth were chipped as if they were hitting the housing. The shaft seems tight but it apparently is wobbling and rubbing the housing under load. Mine was in for a little over 2 years, maybe 4 - 5K miles. CSR will rebuild it for about $60., I bought a new one and will have the broken one rebuilt for a spare.

Re: water pump wiring problems!?

sounds like your electric motor is binding up, therefore drawing more current. I'd take it off the car and take a look, if it's still under warranty, send it in.

My guess is the impeller came loose and that's why the fuse is blowing. Send it back to CSR if that's the case and have them fix it for you.

FYI, I installed the new pump from CSR...........ran fine for about an hour, blew a fuse and wouldn't run at all. Pulled it apart and found the impeller had come off of the shaft.

Ok, granted I missed that part of the equation. I still think they shouldn't have charged that much for fixing their product. The only thing that should go bad with these(IMO) is the motor going bad from amount of use. But it is what it is.

I think $60 is their standard fee for a rebuild on these pumps. I'm glad they do that! It beats having to pay out another $160 for a new one.

What was their turnaround time?
