Exactly. What will a line lock do that holding down the damn brake pedal won't?! Line lock is a waste of money if all you need is help on launches. Line locks are for burnouts.

WITH THAT SAID....

I'm pretty sure that everyone agrees on at least one thing...
Im not gonna hook up well no matter how I launch this thing, so I will probably buy a set of DR's off a local guy. HOWEVER I have 107k on my stock rear ... Is this a recipe for disaster? Am I going to tow my car home on Saturday night??

A4s are not nearly as hard on rears as the 6 speeds are.
I can,t guarantee you won,t break it but its not likely.
I have been running my stock 10 bolt with 3.73s for over 5 years now with no problems.
I have not bettered my 2.0 sixty foot yet though.

I used my stock rearend with 373s TA cover and welded tubes. Pulled 1.70s 60" times for 2 years and never harmed the rearend. this was using M/T ET STREETS. I went through 2 sets of these slicks.
Would even pull the left front tire off the ground. As long as you have an a4 your rearend will live.

a4 , 3.73's, PI 2800 Stall

I am ordering some new goodyear f1 gs-d3's(number 1 rated tire on tirerack.com) hoping that I will be able to plant better than I do with my ****ty as POS yokomama all season tires.

If I know I am only going to be running street tires on the car I wont change the gears. Hooking up with stock gears and a TC is easier than hooking up with gears and a TC.

I've learned gears are kind of worthless if ya can't hook up

Besides the transbrake, you can also use a two-step to launch. It will hold your RPMs to an exact point until you are ready and then off you go. They can really help you get repeatable 60s...
