Transmission Opinions
Transmission Opinions
Just finished the engine build. Result? 396 ex-LT1 shoving a dyno'd 536bhp@6000 522lb/ft@4112.
What I need now is to decide what tranny to throw behind this beast. It's going into a 93 camaro chasis and will be a street strip car. I had looked at TCI Powerglide builds, but their comp stuff is really lacking in street manners.
I need opinions, should I be going man or auto? Whatever You suggest, it has to handle the power and have decent enough street manners to almost pass as a daily driver. If you need more info ask and it shall be provided!

Re: Transmission Opinions
This is my 2 cents below, so take it with a grain of salt.
Answer= Depends. Are you good with a stick? I don't trust myself enough to not miss a shift on a high dollar engine.
Stick- More fun, less hp loss than auto, better manners than a shift kitted auto that will chirp the tires into 2nd (cops love it ),
Auto- Bands will wear out, eventually. No chance of miss-shift, good for cruisin with your girl (hold hands or what ever instead of shifting). Is your car really low? Punch a hole in your pan, and say goodbye to auto! Stick will live, somewhat... Not to mention you will need a high(er) stall for strip, which will suck (gas) on the street, also, think about your gearing (Im guessing 4.10, 4.11?), you gonna do any highway use with a 3,800 stall and 4.10 gears (just an example, tall stall and gear is no deal heh)? I hope not.
These are just a few ideas for you to think about. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in soon!
Oh, chime in when you choose something, and post up pics and vids when you are done.
Good Luck!

Re: Transmission Opinions
Oh yeah, duh guess it would help to state what it would be turning!
Moser 12-bolt 3.73 (for now) Eaton 32 posi.
And yeah it might have to see a bit o highway time.
At this point in time I'm Leaning manual...anyone know what the richmond 6 speed can take?
