Transmission GUYS get in here!!!

Hey you Transmission Guros. I Have an 94 LT1 Camaro a4. Just put in a 355. I did the install with the help of some friends. Now when I pulled the motor out. I pulled it with the Tranny attached to the motor. AS I was pulling and reinstalling the motor in the engine. I lost a JUNK load of Tranny fluid. I mean alot. At first when I started it up. The tranny would not lock up at all when I put it in gear. SO I put about 6 qts of the tranny fluid and now its starting to lock up. My only concern is this. It feels like now the tranny is slipping. ALmost like I need a new trans. MY Tranny was perfect before I pulled my motor. ANd now it seems like its slipping bad. The FLywheel is bolted on RIGHT. and I put tranny fluid in it. NOW is it gonna take a while for the COnverter and stuff to start working like it was? Or could I have a potential Tranny problem jus by simple R & R Thanks in advance Chris

I've found that these trannies are very sensitive to being low on fluid. Why haven't you checked the dipstick?? I was one quart low and the tranny acted very wierd, put one quart in and it ran awesome. Another thing to try if you wanna, pull the pan, drain, then reinstall. Put 4 quarts in then drive the car. If it needs more put another quart in. I'm saying this because I change my tranny fluid everytime I drag race my car (**** I know). With a filter change I get a little over 5 quarts in, without a filter change its almost 5 quarts. Draining your pan will give you a nice "baseline" if you have NO idea how many quarts are in your tranny. Try the easy things first before you start thinking big money (rebuild tranny $$$$$).

You got to love how everyone says rebuild when anyone has a trans problem. But yea if you ran it with very little fluid.....that is bad and will prob need a rebuild.

Like stated above.......too much fluid or too little effects these trannies very much.......i had too much(well actually too little....let's just say it drained from the top and needed to be put back to the top of the tranny......because i had the pan off for like 6days during the trans go install.

I suggest driving it very easy......and keep checking the fluid (add or remove as needed).........a simple letting out a little fluid fixed my weird slipping problem----but now i have a weird downshift problem....due to something that i haven't figured out yet. If that doesn't work and you know it was installed correctly--I'd still go double check.

OK first of all. I DID not drive the car with low fluid cuase it WOULD NOT Go into gear because of LOW fluid. I started the car. Added fluid as needed. And finally it started to lock up a little. After two days. OF checking fluid when I put it in gear it engages just fine. The only thing now is when I step on the gas it feels like it doest not wanna grab at all. Like the Converter not locking up. SO i step on it and it goes forward really really slow then finally it grabs. BUT the it shifts REALLY REALLY slow like burnded out cluthces. I got Ray Besto BLue clutches in there. Suppose to be the best. So what do you guys thinks. BY me starting my car. Would that cuase the cluthces to BURN with low fluid. Cuase if the tranny is gone. IM GOING with TH-350-400 with Manual Valve Body. NO more 4th Gear OD for me. Specially when this is my drag car now. IMput from you guys please Thanks
Chris

Did you have the torque converter off, if you loose fluid out of that it takes approx. 5-7 Qts. to fill plus the 4-5 in the pan. It might still be low on tranny fluid.

I'm sorry I re-read you Question, check your TCC selonoid, it controls the lockup in the torque converter.
