trans is way too hot!!!

Ok, just finished my trans temp gauge install and i turn the key over and the trans is already reading about 230 degrees !!! Then I start driving around and it climbs even more to 250 +!!! WTF??? I have a 2800 stall vigilante and I also bought a transmission cooler from jegs, it is one of the B&M coolers (the 24,000 gvw one). Any thoughts on why it is reading so high??? I dont know if this really matters but I put the sender for the trans gauge not directly in the pan, but in the plug that is on the driver side of the trans above the pan. I heard that this is an ok spot for it, didnt really feel like drilling into the pan. Let me know guys, I always enjoy the feedback from the board as to what may be goin on. Thanks a lot.

It is most likely not real. I've got the same "issues" with the one I installed. I put it in, it creeps up slowly and just keeps on going until it pegs at over 250 degrees. However, I can remove the dipstick and grab the end of it. I also drove it like 500+ miles straight with it pegged so mine definitely isn't real.

Based on what I've read, I believe it is a grounding issue. I just haven't had the time nor motivation to get back under the car and fix it. BUT, I just installed a lift in my garage over the weekend so my motivation to "get under the car" doesn't have to be nearly as great I'll post back when I figure out what is wrong with mine
