Tranny temp. gauge pinned over 250 Deg. !!!!!!

I have a auto meter 2 1/16" tranny temp gauge on my a-pillar.
I have the sender in the pressure test port on the tranny. It
is an electrical gauge . My question (as well as brent frankers)
is the gauge pins itself over 250 Deg. within minutes of the car
running . When the gauge was pinned i took an Infra-red heat
gun and pointed it at the pan and it read 90 Deg
So i felt the pan and it was barely warm. WTF is going on ?
I own a 94 Z28 A4 . The same as brent but neither him or I
can figure this problem out. I tried grounding the sensor out
at the base of the sensor and still no luck. Whats really
fu(king weird is when i get on the throttle a lot the gauge
will jump erratically between 150-250 Degrees . When i let
off the throttle it goes back to over 250 Degrees. Any help
is appreciated. Thanks

I had that problem with my autometer water temp gauge when I put it in... was a pinched wire.. did you do a thorough check for that? When the gauge has no signal going to it, it will peg out.. intermittent it will jump around alot..

The gauge doesnt pin itself right away. It takes aboout 30
min. then it slowly creeps to 250. Could this still be the
sender wire ?

You never know.. if you haven't checked it, take a look, better to check the simple first.. check the ground too..

when my temp gauge was jumping around it would spin to the actual temp the car was running and then back to pegged.. so assuming that is happening your tranny temp is about 150..

before the six speed I had a tranny temp gauge, but I had the sender in the pan.. so can't speak to location..

Just a thought. Sometimes electrical sensors won't work if you use Teflon Tape. Use just tube sealant instead if you did.
