tranny problem
tranny problem
here's the problem: the tranny was rebuit, and bryan made the adjustment for the stall on the pcm.
with the rebuild, we put a shift kit in there too. A4, 4L60E, BTW.
the problem is that when the car is cold, it just starts off in 2nd gear....it stays there for about 4 mins...and when the car warms up, it then is able to shift into 3rd gear....and then it stays there.
we thought the pcm/programming was the problem, but that didnt help...
the guy who rebuilt the tranny says that this sounds like it could be the solinoids....the reason he said that is because when the car's cold, the fluids arent building up enough pressure, but when the car/tranny warms up, it shifts...
now, as far as 1st gear and 4th gear (OD), i dont know...
any thoughts on the matter? could the solinoids be the culpurate for this?

When I do the rebuilds on these, I always drill the solenoid feed holes in the seperator plate to .030-.035 (ATRA approved), and make sure that the solenoids (when energized with 12 volts) do not leak. Failure to do this "might" cause wrong gear starts, no 4th gear, etc.

thanks for the info, guys!
i talked to him today, and he said that some part (i forgot what the name is) was supposed to have voltage, but it didn't, so he's gonna change it. as far as the solinoids, he said he tested them, and that they were fine...
*crosses fingers* let's hope that this $44 part will fix it.
