Tranny out, motor in car....can i replace the rear main seal??
tranny is out getting a rebuild. could i go ahead and replace my rear main seal with the motor in the car?? i already have a seal sitting in my garage, i just want to know if this is even feasable? if so could you guys give me a little step by step. thanks fellas

Yeah it can be replaced pretty easily. Take a screwdriver and pry it out using the three pry spots on the seal. Once removed install the new one. If you bought the felpro Teflon seal use the white installing "tool" to help guide the seal on the crank. If you bought a non teflon, wipe it down with a little oil and slide in out. To get the seal completely on, I used a 4-5" pcv pipe and a chunk of wood to get it flush.

Are you talking about the housing that holds the rear main seal? There is no need to take that off, plus it requires dropping of the oil pan about 2" to get it out. You can take the seal out without removing anything else.
That install tool is something that Felpro includes in their rear main set that prevents damaging the telfon seal on install.
