I see waaaayyy too many people get taken, on here, by people claiming they know how to build a 4L60E. Unfortunately, many of them get them done at "professional" shops.
There's alot of people out there that can BUILD an automatic transmission...There are very few TRANSMISSION BUILDERS.
I've got 700's and 4L60E's out there in the 10 and 11 second zone that have outlasted most other peoples rebuilds for 13 second cars.

I constantly see people ragging on the 700/4L60E. Many want to yank them and put in a 350, 400, or an M6. Too many times, it's not the "song", it's the "singer". The reason people think the 350 is a better transmission is because any idiot can build a 350 and make it work. It takes a little more knowledge to make a 700/4L60E work, but it can be done...And, NO, it doesn't cost a small fortune, either.

My best advice is for everyone to stop using Trans-Go shift kits!

By the way, your 3-4 clutches are probably wasted. There are a few modifications that need to be done to get them to live in these transmissions. Unfortunately, most "transmission builders" don't even know about them.

check leak first

I have seen pleanty of people who have taken there car to the tranny shop, when the only thing wrong was the fact it was out of fluid..... try fixing it yourself (the possible leak) before you trust it to a shaddy mechanic... no offence to good mechanics

THANK GOD

Finally someone else is saying this. I thought I was the only one, so people thought they didn't need to believe me.

MYTH: A shift kit improves trans performance and the life of ur trans.

FACT: A Shift kit hardens shift through ineffectual and basic means, which does shorten the life of your trans.

Hey does anyone have an opinion on the Lucas transmission additive? I have heard good things about their products and have been thinking of using it. I know when I got my car some genious had way over filled it so I bought a little hand pump and pumped alot out. It seems to be in the normal area now, maybe a little high. Also seems to be shifting much better as well. That was a few hundred miles ago.

I know some of you guys hate the Trans gos but honestly its more a builder problem than a shift kit problem.
I have had trans go in both of my trannies and the first one lasted 125k.
The new one has about 4 thousand miles on it with no problems, in fact this is the best feeling tranny I have had yet.
It was built by someone who knows what they are doing though.

Bingo - Revtime

Had a TransGo in mine for the past two years and no problems with it. I bet I have close to 1000+ passes on it.

With this product there are two different argurments that are made, one that they are junk and the other they are great.

I'm sure that Frank builds really good trannies and make them last, to bad he is not closer to me. I could put one of his trannies through a heck of test.

But for now I know what's working for me and it seems to be working pretty good.
