Tranny bangs on downshift

I just had a Tran-go kit installed. Now, when I am driving in D (not overdrive) and slowing down to stop the transmission bangs when it downshifts. It feels like a solid thud or bang. The installation of the kit ended up requiring the transmission to be partly rebuilt (long storry ) If I am in OD there is no bang. Is this bang normal? or did the shop mess something up?

Long story: I was sold a kit for an 4l60E. Part way through the installation the shop realized it didn't fit. I finally got a 700R4 kit that fit my 93 Z. But now the car wouldn't shift out of 1st. The car was taken to a Trans mechanic. He said the clutch material was starved of fluid due to holes drilled in the wrong place of the valve body/plate. This loss of fluid caused the clutch material to fail and clog the govenor. He repaired the damage, but now it makes the banging noise when the tranny downshifts in D (3rd gear selected) It downshifts normally in OD tjough.

Um, I'm not exactly a tranny guy, but banging in any transmission in any gear ain't right. You may want to take it back to the shop and tell them to fix it. I had an 89 305 tbi RS which I installed a shift kit (or no shift kit it turned out) I had to take it apart 3 times, and it still ain't right. I have been told changing the fluid flow sometimes shows the weak part's of the tranny.

the only banging i have ever had is the when the transmission mount broke.....don't think that is the prob, but check it anyway. Otherwise take it to a transmission specialist.....might have to be torn down

I'd like to know what the deal is with this too, mine does the samething in drive, but not overdrive, the tranny was rebuilt about 3k miles ago, with prolly nothing special, the 3-2 downshift aint to bad, but then again i'm goin faster and cant feel it as much, but the 2-1, I can really feel.

I also have a 93 that JUST had a NEW GM Performace tranny instaled that is now a pile o' junk. I think it may be the TV cable though. You also may want to check that out before you take it to the shop.

the tv cable is adjustable next to the trottle body right?
also, ho do you check the trans mount? or do I need to replace it to see if that's the problem?

I don't really think it's the tranny mount. It's more of a lurch when the downshift engages. It is a very, very, very slight lurch in OD, but a very, very hard jerk in D. Is this typical with the kit or a problem?

hey mine will do that as well....usually 2-1 down shift, when going from throttle to coasting. trans mount okay, u-joints okay, no abnormal gear wear. I seen alotta posts on it, not any cure though. People have taken their cars to dealers and such and it comes out as normal.

oh yeah do a search on pinion shaft play, there a post something like "weird clunk noise" or something that about the same thing. take a look
